*** Read Me First - Term version 4.7.2, 9/27/93 ***
The document “Using Term at Brown” included with these files describes an older version of Term, 4.6.4, and has old directions on how connect and logon. Much of the information is still correct, however, there have been some changes. Here are the most important ones:
• The current phone numbers to call (as of 9/93) are:
457-5160 - will provide access to Localnet 20 and the familiar pound sign (#) prompt for 14.4K baud and slower modems.
457-5140 - will provide access to Localnet 20 at 2400 baud and slower speeds.
457-5170 - will provide access to a terminal server at 14.4K baud and slower speeds. Access via the terminal server requires you to use your Network Id (Kerberos). The terminal server will allow you to telnet to “telnet-able” hosts, and access the mainframe using the server's “tn3270” command. However, at this time, the RMAC and WMAC commands will not function when you are logged on through the terminal server. Use one of the Localnet 20 connections in order to do file transfer. CIS intends to remove this restriction in the near future.
The Brown settings files included with Term have been updated to use the new phone numbers, and now include settings for using the terminal servers, as well as Localnet 20.
• Term is distributed both on the Mac disk, and from the “DISTRIBUTOR” file server, found under “brn_CIS_Services” in the Chooser.
• Copy and Paste (under the “Edit” menu) have been implemented.
• Term may be used with the Macintosh Communications Toolbox to automatically configure the modem, dial calls, and interpret modem responses. Brief instructions for installing the required files are found in the document “Using Term w/the Comm. ToolBox”. Additional documentation for this feature will be provided in the future.
• The “Open Connection” and “Close Connections” items in the “File” menu have been implemented for controlling connections. They are used mainly in conjunction with the Communications Toolbox.
• The baud rate settings have been moved to the Communications dialog. Both the Communications and Compatibility dialogs have been redesigned, and no longer match the figures in “Using Term at Brown”.
